Fall 2017 Fashion Prep Week: Metallics
By Sola Onitiri
From the runways of NYFW to the streets of cities worldwide, you may have noticed that everyone's looking a little bit more...shiny. That's because this fall's hottest trend is all about metallics. Here's everything you need to know about getting your shine on.
Your Closet's Shot of Adrenaline
The most difficult part about fall shopping is knowing when to start. A good deal of fall exists in this weather purgatory of balls hot to perfect chai latte weather, all the way to arctic cold weather. So although you had every intention of shopping for traffic stopping fall pieces, the weather's got you shook. You thought you had more time! So you'll inevitably start rifling through the clothes in the fall sweater container that lives in the far reaches of your closet. Because you don't have time for a full overhaul I highly recommend grabbing a few metallic pieces that will give your old items some new life. Layering is key, so keep your eyes peeled for metallic blouses with details like ruffles. This way you can pop it under one of those sweaters.
Please, Skirt the Issue
Some of the best metallic items you're going to nab this season will be skirts. Whether you want to feel sporty in a skater skirt, throw it back to the 90s in a mini, or fancy in a pleated mini, you're going to find a variety of different shiny options in skirts. And don't forget, matching things with metallics are a breeze so don't be afraid to get creative. Pop on some colorful tights and don't forget your leather jacket. This outfit will keep you looking cool and last you through the winter.
To Infinity and Beyond Cool jackets + Blazers
Ok, let's kick it up a notch. If you're trying to make a statement this fall, do not do it with all black. Instead, break up all that black and step into the spotlight with a pure silver or gold jacket. If you're prone to keeping it minimal, keep your styling chic and the accessories geometric. If you're a little extra (like me) pair your look with long
Platinum shoe game
There's nothing like a good pair of kicks, and if you're looking to kick your shoe game up a notch there's no better place to start than metallics. When it comes to making a big splash, you always have to think about shoe type. The rule of thumb is this, the more "ground" your shoes cover the more impactful they'll look. So silver thigh high boots would be high impact where as Oxford flats are the way to go for subtle impact.
